Highland Hammock State Park

I spent a very nice week in Highland Hammock State Park in Sebring.   The park had several short hiking and biking trails near the camp ground and the park was packed with kids riding their bikes and families going for walks.   The weather was spectacular and it was nice to see everyone out and about.   Once the weekend passed, the park emptied out and became much more to my liking, nice and quiet! Late Monday afternoon, there was a knock at my door.   Two young ladies said they noticed my truck and wondered if I could help them.   Seems their boyfriends had taken their jeep out in an orange grove and gotten it stuck.   They wondered if I could go pull them out.   I followed them out to take a look at the situation.   OMG what idiots!!   They drove a jeep about 350 feet down path of deep, loose sugar sand.   The jeep was now buried so deep you could barely see the back tires.   I really don't understand how they got it so far in.  They had a small shovel, so I suggested they

FROG Rally

I just spent a week in Moore Haven at a rally of about 120 Forest River brand RV owners.   It was so much fun to meet other RVers and share stories.   I mostly hung out with about 20 people.   I was the only full timer, but several spent a few months on the road each year, so we had a lot in common.   It was my first rally, but won’t be my last!  Two of the luckiest people I’ve met so far, Cindy and Bob, work for Forest River.   Attending these rallies ARE their job.   OK I’ve done event planning and I know how much work goes into it before the fun begins.   But still, great work if you have to work.     If you recall from previous posts, I had hiked the Florida Trail in northern Florida.   The trail runs the length of the state, including along Lake Okeechobee and I was anxious to hike this portion of it.    On our 2 nd rally day I headed out with a few new friends.   We arrived at a park alongside the trail.   Before we headed out, I tossed some trash in a can and heard some l

Christmas

I’m back in Kissimmee for 2 weeks for Christmas.   When I’m in the area, I stay at an RV park about 2 miles from my Mom’s.   The park is an older park and there are several permanent residents.   The people are so friendly.   Each time I visit, I stay in another area of the park, so each time I get to meet different   people.   My 2 nd day here, I got up early and went to walk Brutus.   As I rounded the corner, I noticed one of my bikes was missing.   WOW, I’d been ripped off, someone stole my customized street bike!     I had the curved handlebars and gears converted to a mountain bike configuration.   I loved this bike, I rode it on all the century rides and triathlons and had plans of getting back into century riding.   (100 mile bike rides)   The handlebars had specialized cushioned pads and it allowed me to change my grip on the long rides.   I was so bummed!   I walked all over the park looking for it and along the way I discovered about 6 more bikes had also been stolen.   Ap
