Funny story

So I mentioned in my previous post, how remote the campground is.   I’m in a clearing with 5 sites, spread around in sort of a triangle.   Kimberly,   my soon to be neighbor, helped me park.   After much, much maneuvering , I got lined up to a site.   When I got out for a final check before unhooking, we realized there was no sewage hookup.   So I had to exit the clearing and start all over again.   The next site I picked has 2 hookups side by side.   Again, after much maneuvering, I finally got settled in and Kimberly went back to work.   I unhooked my truck and moved it out of the way, to the middle of the clearing.   I stopped with the front tires resting against a tiny little mound of dirt.   When I went to back out, I realized my truck was stuck.   Really, really stuck!   Note to self, don’t get mad and floor it, it just makes matters worse.   After much consideration, sweat, swearing etc, I realized one tire was spinning endlessly in really soft sand and none of the other tires w

Made it to California

I had a great visit with friends on the way to California.   My best friend Sylvia lives in El Paso.   We are so much alike it’s shocking, we even have the same birthday.   She would also like to get an RV, so we spent the morning checking some out at a local dealer.   Next was a light lunch at our favorite, Taco Bell.   When we were in the Oregon Air National Guard we used to ride to drill together, from Salem to Portland.  On the way home it became a tradition to stop at Taco Bell.   She would unwrap my burrito and fix it just right before handing it to me as we drove home.    Our other favorite place to eat is Red Lobster, so we had to save room for the big feast.   In between we treated ourselves to a spa day, complete with massage, facial, and pedicure.   For an after dinner treat, we picked up her mom and headed to Sonic.   I just wanted a cherry slush for the next day’s drive, but I did manage to choke down an ice cream.   A more perfect day could not have been had, unless our o

Houma week 2

One thing I've noticed, it's much easier doing laundry when you don't have to dress up every day. Nothing to fold or hang right away so it doesn't wrinkle, no lingerie to be careful with. Just jeans, workout pants and t-shirts. Getting ready in the morning is a breeze too, hair goes into a pony tail, minimal makeup and out the door. It’s great until I see a picture of myself, than I wish I had put on nicer clothes and taken more time on my hair and makeup. But then again, I’m building, painting and sanding all day, so that makes no sense, so I just don’t look at the pictures! Monday the weather was beautiful so Barbara and I decided to eat dinner outside. I believe the mosquitoes ate more than we did, even though we practically bathed in bug spray! Remember this is the campground I stayed in a few weeks ago where I had to fumigate my truck after it was invaded by a hoard of mosquitoes? It hasn’t improved. The sites are so small there is no room to put up my screen

Houma week 1

This Habitat build is very different from last week.   First of all, the construction supervisor Tony is not quit as organized as Mark, from Texas.  But than who is?  Not entirely his fault, he has a lot on his plate.    This is a pretty   busy affiliate, I think he said they have done as many as 12 builds a year.    Bon Jovi donated a huge amount of money, and they built an entire neighborhood.   The street is called Bon Jovi and he came to a dedication ceremony and handed out some keys.   Most of the houses are finished, but a few still need some work.   I was hoping we would be there, but instead we're working on the Habitat office, which has been completely gutted.   I spent the past week sanding windows and painting.   I’m hoping I can do something more substantial next week, as are the rest of the crew. T here are only 6 of us on the job site, 3 men and 3 women.   There is another single girl, Barb,   who I worked with all week.   She has been RVing for several years and we’v

Back in Louisiana

We’re done with the build in Corpus Christi and I’m now in Houma, Louisiana for a build in nearby Thibodaux.   I had a great time in Texas, the people I was with were so much fun.   I’m hoping to hook up with them again next year.   We started with a slab of concrete and by the time we left we had the rafters up and had started on the siding.   The first week we had a group of students, but the 2 nd week it was just us.   I didn’t really care for Corpus Christi.   It was windy and hot but the air was just so sticky.   Not so much from the heat as the salt air I guess.   It was so nice coming back every day and   jumping into the pool.   I’ve been listening to the Hunger Games and just finished the last book, it was awesome!   I saw the movie, but it wasn’t nearly as good.   After reading or listening to the Hunger Games trilogy and the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, I’m sorely in need of another good book.   Any suggestions? The campground I’m in now is pretty shady so my sat
